The Orthokeratology Society of Oceania
(OSO) is dedicated to promoting research, professional
development and networking in the cornea and contact
lens field. Since inception, our organisation has encouraged
the exchange of research, knowledge and experience among
professionals working in the cornea and contact lens
industry.
Over the years, we have established an enviable reputation
as a well recognised and highly respected professional
organisation committed to supporting both New Zealand
and Australian optometrists.
Past Presidents include expert fitters of rigid contact lenses such as Graham Peachy, John Mountford and Russell Lowe. The current president, Gavin Boneham was elected in 2003. With the interest of more New Zealanders, the society officially changed its name to the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania in 2006. 2009 brought about the inclusion of kiwi Jagrut Lallu, as the New Zealand delegate for the society, and the appointment of Kate Johnson as the treasurer.
2010 promises to be an exciting year for the OSO, the
OSO biannual conference will be held in July of this
year with many respected authorities on Ortho K including
Randy Kojima, John Mountford and we eagerly await Associate
Professor Helen Swarbricks’ ROK group research
results on myopia control and ortho k.
The OSO intends to provide a support role for the optometric
profession by serving across a broad range of essential
services, this includes:
|
• |
protecting the academic, professional
and economic independence and the well being of
practitioners |
|
• |
preserving and protecting the political, legal
and industrial interests of medical practitioners. |
|
• |
providing an advisory and professionally protective
role for the safe use and appropriate application
for OrthoK in both Australia and New Zealand by
certified practitioners |
